ALPACAS
MAGAZINE
Dear Alpaca Enthusiast,
Welcome to the autumn edition of
Alpacas Magazine
, the official journal of the Alpaca Owners and
Breeders Association. This publication has a rich history. The first issue of the
Alpacas Magazine
was
published in 1990. The past 23 years have seen many changes in our industry and
AM,
through articles
and advertising, has been there to record the history.
In the fall of 2002, AOBA formally adopted its own AOBA Certified Show system, independent of the
Alpaca and Llama Show Association. Through the years AOBA’s show system has become known world-
wide for its hallmark Certified Judges Training program. This issue of
Alpacas Magazine
highlights the
events and results from the 2013 AOBA National Show, Auction and Conference held in Denver, CO in
May. Please mark your calendars—the 2014 National Show and Conference will be held in March instead
of May. The event will be in Harrisburg, PA, March 14-16.
The editor and article contributors have put together another issue packed with information of interest
to alpaca owners and breeders. Readers wanting to learn more about these amazing alpacas will discover
many interesting articles, too.
Over the decades since the first issue of
Alpacas Magazine,
times have been good and times have
been challenging; some industry organizations have formed and grown while others have gone by the
wayside; owners and breeders have come and some have gone. One thing that has not changed is the
mission of the magazine to promote alpacas, the alpaca lifestyle, and alpaca end products.
Please enjoy this issue and if you’d like more information about alpacas, the Alpaca Owners and Breed-
ers Association, alpaca shows or back issues of the magazine, please visit

Sincerely,
Dianna Jordan, Board President
