Four CCA Ribbon Extensions:

Work back and forth as short rows.

CCA Extension 1:

Row 1

for how this extension

looks): Rem EOR marker, Sl 7 sts, * with

a new strand of CCA, CO 1 (yes, CO 1;

using the backwards loop technique

works well), K to 5 sts before the center st

of the next corner (74 sts worked, includ-

ing the CO), turn *.

Row 2:

YO

(see Special Techniques Section

for how to do a YO at the beg of row),

K 74, turn. 75 sts.

Row 3:

Sl 1 wyif, yarn back, K 74, turn.

Rows 4-12:

Rpt row 3. At the end of row

12 there are 6 CCA garter ridges complet-

ed; cut yarn and turn to front side of work.

CCA Extension 2:

Row 1

(see Figure 7):

Sl the 75 sts of the

extension you just completed, Sl 11 sts

from round 48 (5 sts are from the end of

this side of the square, 1 is the corner st,

and 5 sts are from the next side of the

square), rpt * to * of row 1 of extension 1.

Rows 2-12:

Rpt rows 2-12 of CCA exten-

sion 1.

CCA EXTENSION 3:

Rpt extension 2.

CCA EXTENSION 4:

(setup round,

how the sts are distributed): Sl the 75 sts

of extension 4, ins EOR marker, with MC

beg by first working sts from round 48,

that is * K 5 sts, work OC5, K 5 (all of

the round 48 sts in this corner have been

worked); then PU&K 6 sts in the R edge

of the next extension as you did on the

center square; work 1 OC1 in the first 2

sts of the top of the extension, K to 2 sts

before the end of the top of the extension

Backwards Loop CO:

Put a simple twist

over the ndl and snug it up next to the

prev CO sts, as shown in

Figure 1.

Use

also as the CO at the beg of a row.

IC (Inside Corner):

Sl 2 as if to K tog,

K 1, P2SSO.

OC1 (Outside Corner, version 1):

Working

in the first 2 sts as if to K2tog, work (K 1,

YO, K 1)—that is, turn 2 sts into 3 sts.

OC2 (Outside Corner, version 2):

Sl 1 as

if to K, (K 1, YO, K 1) in next st, pass Sl st

over all 3 of the sts just made (that is,

pass the Sl st over the K 1, YO, K 1).

OC3 (Outside Corner, version 3):

In the

base of the first st of the CO row, work

(K 1, YO, K 1).

OC4 (Outside Corner, version 4):

Work

(K 1, YO, K 1) in the base of the last CO st.

OC5 (Outside Corner, version 5):

Work

(K 1, YO, K 1) in next st.

PU&K:

Pick up the new sts from 1 full stitch-

width in from the edge of the work. To do

this, ins the R ndl under the Sl st edging,

wrap yarn around ndl and then draw the

yarn through.
